Meet Kate, the artist behind August Morgan. If you're not familiar with Kate's wonderful needlepoint canvases, perhaps you've seen her embroidered cocktail napkins in boutiques across the country!

Tell us about yourself Kate. Where do you consider home to be?

I live in Austin, Texas with my husband, my son who is in high school and my daughter who is away at college. I love my house and my centrally located neighborhood.  I love my neighbors and love to have them over for impromptu cocktails.  I feel like I've created a little cocoon!


Are you a stitcher yourself? What was your first experience with needlepoint?

My fabulous grandmother, Granny Bunny, taught me to needlepoint as well as sew.  I will cherish the weekends I spent with her.  She was very fun and enjoyed a cocktail.  A role model, if you will.

Tell us the story behind your clever cocktail napkins. How did you start your business?

I started with four designs and have grown my collection to almost 60.  They are in more that 600 stores across the country.  They are made in Vietnam and I have visited the factory, which is women owned.  I am so thrilled and thankful that this has turned into a full time job!

Tell us more about your connection with KCN Designers and what it’s like to see your pieces available in needlepoint form. 

I absolutely love working with the KCN Designers.  To see my designs in canvas is thrilling; to see someone's finished piece of my designs just makes my week!  I hope to do more trunk shows this year for my KCN Designers canvases.



Do you have a favorite canvas or design, or something you can't wait to stitch for yourself?

I am dying to do a large beanbag frog. If anyone has a lead, please let me know!
